The Greater Augusta HBCU Alumni Alliance was organized in February 2013. Chapter representatives from twelve Historically Black College and University alumni chapters came together expressing an interest in forming an HBCU alumni alliance. Our mission/goal is to assist high school juniors and seniors in making decisions about college and careers. We encourage students to consider HBCUs when enrolling in college by providing scholarships to students who attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
During our first year, 2013-2014, we sponsored a picnic/mixer to introduce our organization to the community. Thirty-four (34) HBCUs were represented at the mixer. Today 22 HBCU alumni chapters make up the alliance.
We sponsor an annual HBCU college/career fair for high school students.
As a fundraiser, we sponsored an annual 5K Fun Run/Walk and Health Fair. Funds raised provide scholarships to high school seniors enrolled at an HBCU.
To date, we have awarded over $70,000 in scholarships.
We have made monetary donations to the 100 Black Men, Paine College, and The Golden Harvest Food Bank, Jessye Norman School of Arts, Boys and Girls Club and Augusta Mini Theater.
